Believe Exclusively John 14:1-14, 27-29 Dec. 15, 2013

Did you ever hear someone accuse Baptist of being too narrow as they want to say there is more than one way to heaven. In our text verse six makes it clear there is no room for another way. So I am pleased Baptist Believe Exclusively!

1    Believe Exclusively; The Way To Be with God. John 14:1-6

       A.   Exclusively . . Faith In Christ is The Way to the Father’s House. 14:1-3

1 "Your heart must not be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me.

2 In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if not, I would have told you. I am going away to prepare

       a place for you.

3 If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so that where I am

       you may be also.

       B.   Exclusively the . . Foundation of Faith in Christ Is The Only Way To Heaven. 14:4-6

4 You know the way where I am going."

5 "Lord," Thomas said, "we don't know where You're going. How can we know the way?"

6 Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

People try to convince them selves they know the way to heaven even without the foundation of having any verses of scripture to support their belief. They make wrong assumptions. Baptist and other Bible believing Christians stand firm on the Biblical truth that Jesus is the only way to the Father and heaven. In the book of Hebrews one verse (11:6) reads, “without faith it is impossible to please God,.” In addition Jesus is recorded in Matt. 7:23 telling some who, boasted about their works, at judgement day, “ 'I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!'” Jesus told His disciples He would prepare a place in heaven for them. That place will only be for disciples of faith and surrender to Jesus as Lord.

2.   Believe Exclusively; The Way to Know God. 14:7-11

       A.   Exclusively The Way To Know God Must Be to . . Know The Son. 14:7-9

7 "If you know Me, you will also know My Father. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him."

8 "Lord," said Philip, "show us the Father, and that's enough for us."

9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been among you all this time without your knowing Me, Philip? The one who

has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

       B.   Exclusively The Way To Know God Must Be Through . . Knowledge from the Son. 14:10-11

10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I speak to you I do not speak on My own. The Father who lives in Me does His works.

11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Otherwise, believe because of the works

On one occasion I had a Christian “T” shirt on as I went through the area for the checking of my baggage. A lady said to me as she pointed to my shirt “I’ll bet you know the Lord Jesus.” I told her yes I do and then asked her if she knew Him. She said, “yes, and He knows that I know Him. By knowing the Lord Jesus we also know the Father as He sent His son for this very purpose. The Lord claimed He and the Father were one and then said, “ Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Otherwise, believe because of the works

themselves. Several time in scripture people believed because of the works Jesus did. A conclusion arises

only God could do these miracles.

3.   Believe Exclusively; The Way to Pray to God. 14:12-14

       A.   Exclusively The Way To Know About Prayer . . Comes Through Jesus. 14:12-14

12 "I assure you: The one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.

13 Whatever you ask in My name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

       B.   Exclusively The Way To Know About Prayer . . Concludes In Jesus Name. 14:14

14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

We have access to God through the way Jesus provides. Do you know the word access appears in the New Testament three times and every time it is talking about God allowing access to Himself through His Son Jesus.

Jesus is the only way to the Father. Prayer magnifies the Father and in Jesus name the possibility of the miraculous is available. Anything in the Lord’s will can be provided as we pray in Jesus name.

4.   Believe Exclusively; The Way to Enjoy God’s Peace. 14:27-29

       A.   Exclusively The Way To Enjoy God’s Peace Is . . Provided By Christ. 14:27

27 "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart

must not be troubled or fearful.

       B.   Exclusively The Way To Enjoy God’s Peace Is . . Planned By Christ. 14:12-14

28 You have heard Me tell you, 'I am going away and I am coming to you.' If you loved Me, you would

have rejoiced that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.

29 I have told you now before it happens so that when it does happen you may believe.)

Did you realize peace is related to thoughts about truth. The Lord said, “peace I leave with you.” You might say this is His last will and testament. Peace is provided and planned by Christ. If you focus on the truth of scripture in Christ and not on circumstances peace will follow. The disciples were in an upper room sort of

waiting before they went back to their old way of life. The news of the resurrection changed them. Christ appeared to them and gave them marching orders and the peace of Jesus saturated them. They believed they should Believe Exclusively and they did. Amen? Amen!
