Equipped To Live†††† 1 Peter 4:1-11 HCSB††††† Oct. 16, 2016
Some people have told me that they could not be a Christian because they could not live the Christian life.
I have told them if it depends only on us none of us could live like a Christian.† But Christ does not leave us on our own but He enables us to be Equipped To Live like a Christian.† We certainly need to show that example.
1.††† Equipped To Live by . . Living for Godís Will.†† 4:1-4
A.†† Living for Godís Will by . . Empowering Us As His Children.†† 4:1-2
1 Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same resolveóbecause the One
who suffered in the flesh has finished with sin ó
2 in order to live the remaining time in the flesh, no longer for human desires, but for God's will.
B.††† Living for Godís Will by . . Excluding the old sinful Lifestyle.†† 4:3-4
3 For there has already been enough time spent in doing the will of the pagans: carrying on in
unrestrained behavior, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry.
4 In regard to this, they are surprised that you don't plunge with them into the same flood of
dissipationóand they slander you.
Life is much more meaningful and enjoyable when we live for God and seek to follow His bidding.
That means we want to exalt Him by following His will and guidance.† Our Salvation teaches us we are
empowered by Him through His Holy Spirit.† Therefore He has gifted us and caused us to be Equipped
to Live for Him.† Living for Him certainly includes excluding the old sinful lifestyle.† The text calls it the
will of pagans and list several behaviors we have been saved to no longer include in our life.† I tried to associate with my former friends but then the time came when they would go to search for more sinful activities and I would not go and they even stopped asking me to go with them because I would not go.
My new Christian friends certainly helped me to live like I had been equipped to live.
2.††† Equipped To Live by . . Living Accountable to God.†† 4:5-6
A.†† Living Accountable to the† . . Eternal Judge.†† 4:5
5 They will give an account to the One who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.
B.††† Living Accountable for the† . . Exciting Spiritual Realm.†† 4:6
6 For this reason the gospel was also preached to those who are now dead, so that, although they might
be judged by men in the fleshly realm, they might live by God in the spiritual realm.
Some people of the world think they try to live for the Lord and fail so they donít try anymore.† But they never turned their life over to the Lord.† Receiving His salvation and the empowering of the Holy Spirit so
they did not have the power to live the Christian life.† They did not live accountable to the Eternal Judge.
Living accountable to Him can give us an exciting lifestyle especially when compared to the sinful lifestyle.
Some people reject the message of salvation but we are to share the message anyway.† Some people will
surrender to the message and enjoy what Jesus give us in the Christian life.
3.††† Equipped To Live by . . Living in Love.†† 4:7-11
A.†† Living in Love . . Disciplined for Service.†† 4:7-9
7 Now the end of all things is near; therefore, be clear‑headed and disciplined for prayer.
8 Above all, keep your love for one another at full strength, since love covers a multitude of sins.
9 Be hospitable to one another without complaining.
B.††† Living in Love . . Disciplined for the Significance God.†† 4:10-11
10 Based on the gift they have received, everyone should use it to serve others, as good managers of
the varied grace of God.
11 If anyone speaks, his speech should be like the oracles of God; if anyone serves, his service should
be from the strength God provides, so that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.
To Him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.†† HCSB
Christians are told by the Lord to love one another.† Some times that is not easy but if we try to love one another it becomes easier.† A Christian community that displays love is beautiful to behold, The text tells us to be disciplined for love and that love covers a multitude of sins.† We know we are sinful and although we can say we sin less because of our growth as Christians we cannot say we are perfect.† We can work at being hospitable and make sure our complains are decreasing and we seek to be more like Christ.†† Our speech needs to show we want to please God and all of our service is designed to glorify God.† We belong to the Lord and should leave no doubt of that fact after all we are Equipped To Live for Him.† Amen?† Amen!
