Redeeming Judgment Rev. 9:1-12 HCSB Aug. 16, 2015

I am of the opinion that all Christians are curious about the seal placed by God on people He redeems. We are told about Gods seal in many scriptures including the following scriptures John 6:27, 2Cor. 1:22,

Eph. 1:13, Eph. 4:30, 2Tim. 2:19. Also in the Book of Revelation the seventh chapter we see the

twelve Tribes are sealed by God. In the last part of the seventh chapter we see there are multitudes upon

multitudes of people who wear robes washed in the blood of the Lamb. Then in the fourth verse of our text

it speaks of those who have Gods seal on their foreheads. We all represent the faith in Christ and will all

spent eternity in heaven because of His Redeeming Judgement. Amen! Amen!

1. Redeeming Judgement . . Begins with A Swarm of Locust. 9:1-3

A. A Swarm of Locust . . Released From Hell. 9:1-3a

1 The fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from heaven to earth. The key to the

shaft of the abyss was given to him.

2 He opened the shaft of the abyss, and smoke came up out of the shaft like smoke from a great furnace so

that the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke from the shaft.

3 Then out of the smoke locusts came to the earth, . . .

B. A Swarm of Locust . . Reacting Like Scorpions. 9:3b

. . . and power was given to them like the power that scorpions have on the earth.

The star that fell from heaven is probably Satan. He has the key to the abyss. He open the shaft and a great amount of smoke followed by locust. These locust are not normal as they have power never before given to locust. The power they have is like that of scorpions. It is a terrible time and I am glad many, including me, believe Christians are raptured before this time. I find it interesting that most of the prominent preachers on radio believe we will be taken out before this time. As a young man I was impressed that Billy Graham believed

like this; today he still does.

2. Redeeming Judgement with . . Believers Protected. 9:4

A. Believers Protected and The . . GreenGrass, Plants and Trees. 9:4a

4 They were told not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green plant, or any tree, . . .

B. Believers Protected with The . . Gain Derived from the Forehead Seal. 9:4b

. . . but only people who do not have God's seal on their foreheads.

God has ultimate control, as always, even in this time of the tribulation. He tells the locust they were not to harm the grass of the earth or any of the green plants or trees. In addition they are told not to harm the people who have the seal of God on their foreheads. This is a protection given to those who are born again as they have given their lives to Jesus and have His seal on them.

3. Redeeming Judgement When . . Bloodshed Is Not Permitted. 9:5-6

A. Bloodshed Not Permitted but Limited . . Torment Only. 9:5

5 They were not permitted to kill them, but were to torment them for five months; their torment is like the torment caused by a scorpion when it strikes a man.

B. Bloodshed Not Permitted As Death . . Travels Away From Them. 9:6

6 In those days people will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, but death will flee from them.

During this time the Lord stops bloodshed. The torment that goes on during this time is limited in its length but will still be less than desirable. Some of the people will seek death but death will flee from them.

We humans obviously do not always know what is best for us. As always the Lord is in control and for that we can be very thankful. This is a time of Redeeming Judgement and Christians going through this at this time can be thankful. Will some people come to the Lord for salvation during this time? It would seem the Lord will be willing to allow repentance at any time and this judgement time surely ought to cause some to think seriously

about it.

4. Redeeming Judgement and the . . Bestowing of Judgement 9:7-12

A. Bestowing of Judgement and The . . Appearance of the Locust. 9:10a

7 The appearance of the locusts was like horses equipped for battle. On their heads were something like

gold crowns; their faces were like men's faces;

8 they had hair like women's hair; their teeth were like lions' teeth;

9 they had chests like iron breastplates; the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many

horses rushing into battle;

10a and they had tails with stingers, like scorpions,

B. Bestowing of Judgement and The . . Ability of the Locust. 9:10a

10b . . . so that with their tails they had the power to harm people for five months.

11 They had as their king the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he

has the name Apollyon.

12 The first woe has passed. There are still two more woes to come after this.

These locust are equipped for battle and making everthing unpleasant during this time. Their appearance

could be called grotesk and it is topped off with tails with stingers. The power they have can make things

very unpleasant. These are difficult days for a time of Redeeming Judgment. Amen? Amen!
