INTRODUCTION
We live in a me first generation. Most people look out for number one
and number one is there own person. Jesus gives us the example, as He meets
the desires of God first, Others second, and Himself last. This is true
throughout His life, and climaxes here on the cross.
A. False Theology says Jesus could not be God ,
and Man with a normal
body.
1.
His normal body got thirsty.
B. False Theology says Jesus could not have been
tempted.
1.
Jesus was tempted earlier but refused, to drink.
Mark 15:23 And they tried to give Him wine mixed with myrrh; but He
did not take it. (NAS)
2. Note
the drink was a narcotic.
Strongs # 4669 smurnizo (smoor-nid'-zo); from 4667; to tincture with myrrh, i.e. embitter (as a narcotic): KJV-- mingle with myrrh.
C. False Theology says God does not punish Sin.
1. Christ
suffers the Thirst of Hell while on the Cross. Luke 16:24 (NAS)
24 "And he cried out and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and
send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off
my tongue; for I am in agony in this flame.'
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty." (NAS)
A.. After He had suffered much Pain then a cry of personal Desire.

produced a great thirst.

B. After the Needs of Mankind are Met.
1. The
Provisions for Mankind Sin had been met. v 28 a
C. After the Desires of God are Met. v 28 b

Scripture had been fulfilled.
Ps 22:16
16 For dogs have surrounded me; a band of evildoers has encompassed
me; they pierced my hands and my feet. (NAS)
Ps 22:17-18
17 I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me;
18 They divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.
(NAS)
Ps 41:9
9 Even my close friend, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted
up his heel against me. (NAS)
Isa 53:7 (NAS)
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth;
like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before
its shearers, so He did not open His mouth.
Illustration
I have on three occasions had major surgery. I had tubes in my mouth
and my throat became very dry. I could not have any water to quench the
dryness. When they finally took those tubes out I was eager to get some
chips of ice to relieve my parched throat. I thought about Jesus suffering
thirst. He did it for me and you.
Application
Jesus suffered a great thirst for us. If we accept His pardon we will
never have to have the great thirst caused by the torment of Hell.
A. Jesus Thirst for Us to be Salt and Light. Matt
5:13
13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless,
how will it be made salty {again} It is good for nothing anymore, except
to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. (NAS)
1. We become
salt in ministry. "Matt 25:34-37
34 "Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are
blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation
of the world. 35 'For I was hungry, and you gave Me {something} to eat;
I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited
Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I
was in prison, and you came to Me.' 37 "Then the righteous will answer
Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty,
and give You drink? (NAS)
B. Jesus has a Thirst for the Faltering Christian.
Mark 16:7
7 "But go, tell His disciples and Peter, 'He is going before you into
Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He said to you.'" (NAS)
1. It is significant that Jesus specifically calls for Simon Peter.
2. He Preached on the Day of Pentecost because the Lord called him.
C. Jesus has a Thirst for the Average Christian
to move Upward.
Matt 11:28-30 28 "Come to Me, all who
are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 "Take My yoke upon
you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall
find rest for your souls. 30 "For My yoke is easy, and My load is light."
(NAS)
1. For
the Average Christian to become a vibrant Witness.
a. 95 % of Christians never win any one else to faith
in Jesus.
D. Jesus has a Thirst for the Person who is Spiritually
Lost.
John 3:14 "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in
the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; (NAS)
John 12:32 32 "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself." (NAS)
1. This is the reason Christ dies; so you and I can have life.
