A New Womb, A New Tomb Can Bring A New Heart

Luke 1:30-39, John 19:38-42

Introduction

I thought about preaching about the baby Jesus and how Mary wrapped Him in Swaddling clothes and when He was taken down from the cross he was wrapped up in linen cloth. Then I got this thought about an Empty Womb, Tomb, and Heart.

1.   A New Womb. (To Be Occupied by Baby Jesus)

Introduction

Mary was a virgin and she said, “to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?"

A.   A Virgin Birth Prophesied.

       1.    A Not So Clear Prophecy. Gen 3:15

And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel." NKJV

       2.    A Very Clear Prophecy. Isa 7:14

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the

virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. NKJV

B.   A Virgin Birth Promised.       Luke 1:30-39

30 Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.

32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end." 34 Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?" 35 And the angel answered and said to her,"The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren.

37 For with God nothing will be impossible." 38 Then Mary said, "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her. NKJV

C.   A Virgin Birth . . Paraphrased.    Matt 1:18-25

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." 22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us." 24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, 25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus. NKJV

While pastoring in a St. Louis suburb we had a couple from China join our church. He was a doctor in Biology at Monsanto Chemical.

My wife and I had them over for supper one night. I asked him about his salvation experience. I asked did you become a Christian while in China, he said no. Since they had migrated to Thailand I asked if he got saved in that country he said no. I knew his wife was a Christian in China so I asked if his wife influenced him in coming to Christ? He said no. So I asked what brought you to Christ and he said, “Science!”

That dumbfounded me since I had never heard anyone say anything like that. So I asked for the details. He told me the self pollinating flower caused him to believe in the virgin Birth. Then he said I began to search to learn more about God and attended a Christian Bible study on campus. I learned about Jesus and got saved. He met his wife in the Bible study.

Since I had taken a course at college in Botany I new something about the Self pollinating flower. I think that is a good story so I use it to talk about the virgin Birth.

Illustration         Mary Had a Little Lamb

Mary had a little Lamb,

He was born on Christmas day.

She laid him in a manger bed

To Sleep upon the hay.

Angels filled the night-time sky

And they began to sing.

Shepherds heard them all proclaim

The birthday of a King.

Wise men saw a blazing star

Up in the sky that night.

They followed it until they found

The King of love and light.

Mary had a little Lamb,

But He wasn't hers, you know,

He was the very Son of God,

The One who loves us so.

The Father of this little Lamb

Loved the world so much

That He sent his only Son to earth

So we could feel His touch.

He came to give us joy and peace

And take away our sin.

So when He knocks on your heart's door,

Be sure to let Him in.

Why do I love this precious Lamb?

What can the reason be?

The answer is quite plain to see,

It's because He first loved me!

Application

At one time Jesus Occupied an Empty Womb.

THE MIRACLE OF THE New Womb

2.   A New Tomb. (Temporarily used By The Lord Jesus)

Introduction

I have borrowed this idea from my Minister Friend Gary Taylor who is now our State Director of Evangelism. I added to this story. One day A call came from a person wanting to sell cemetery lots.

I asked the person did they ever rent them or give refunds. The person said, I’m sorry but I’m selling cemetery lots. I said yes I understand very clearly, and I want to know if you rent these lots and give a refund on a person using one of these lots temporarily. You see I don’t plan to be using one very long if at all.

A.   Jesus Was . . Thankfully Laid In A New Tomb. (Empty)

John 19:38-42 38 After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus. 39 And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.

40 Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury. 41 Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.

42 So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews' Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby. NKJV

Matt 27:60 and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed. NKJV

B.   Jesus Was . . Triumphantly Raised from A New Tomb.

Matt 28:1-4 Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door,* and sat on it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. NKJV

Illustration

The guards sang a song later used by Elvis Presley .

Im all shook up. Yea Yea Im all shook up.

Mark 16:6 But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. NKJV

Little Boy with part in A play was supposed to say, “He Is Not Here or He has Risen.” He got in front of the crowd and said. “Him not hear Him gone.”

Application

A Miracle In An Empty Tomb.

3.   A New Heart Is Possible. (No Spiritual Life In It.)

Matt 15:8 "These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And* honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. V

1 Cor 15:14-16 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up — if in fact the dead do not rise. NKJV

Rom 10:9-10 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. NKJV

Acts 8:37 Then Philip said,"If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said,"I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." NKJV

Ezek 36:25-27 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. NKJV

Doctor asked little girl as he checked her over with his stethoscope

let’s listen for scobby Doo. Is he in your back is he in your arm? Is he in your heart? She said, silly doctor scobby is on my panties, Jesus is in my heart.

IS JESUS IN YOUR HEART?

Illustration

As I remember, it was John Peterson who wrote a beautiful song about Jesus. The publishers were excited about the song possibilities, but they wanted to change one word. They wanted to take Jesus' name and replace it with a lady’s names. They offered a large sum of money, but John refused. As he left their office, Satan whispered in his ear, "you're a fool, it's only a song." But then he heard Jesus say, "Thanks, John."

My Song by John W. Peterson
Why should I sing of lesser things And things that pass away
When I’ve a friend like Jesus now To sing about each day

I have no song to sing But that of Christ my King
To Him my praise I’ll bring Forever more!
His love beyond degree, His death that ransomed me
Now and eternally I’ll sing it o’er

I find no more delight in other songs
My melody of love to Christ belongs;
I have no song to sing But that of Christ my King
To Him my praise I’ll bring For-ev-er-more!

Calvary Conquered my Heart! by John W. Peterson

I was a rebel and stranger from God,
Willful and selfish the path that I trod
Carelessly walking sin's highway so broad
When Calvary conquered my heart!

chorus:
Calvary conquered my heart!
Calvary conquered my heart!
When I gazed at the tree,
Saw Christ dying for me
Then Calvary conquered my heart!
