When Angels Pour Out Judgments

Rev 16:1-21

KJV` 1 And I heard a great voice` out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth. 2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image. 3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea. 4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.``5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus. 6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy. 7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments. 8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. 10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, 11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds. 12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15  Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. <>17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. 18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. 19   And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great. (KJV)

NAS 1 And I heard a loud voice from the temple, saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out the seven bowls of the wrath of God into the earth." 2 And the first {angel} went and poured out his bowl into the earth; and it became a loathsome and malignant sore upon the men who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped his image. 3 And the second {angel} poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became blood like {that} of a dead man; and every living thing in the sea died. 4 And the third {angel} poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of waters; and they became blood. 5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying, "Righteous art Thou, who art and who wast, O Holy One, because Thou didst judge these things; 6 for they poured out the blood of saints and prophets, and Thou hast given them blood to drink. They deserve it." 7 And I heard the altar saying, "Yes, O Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are Thy judgments." 8 And the fourth {angel} poured out his bowl upon the sun; and it was given to it to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues; and they did not repent, so as to give Him glory. 10 And the fifth {angel} poured out his bowl upon the throne of the beast; and his kingdom be-came darkened; and they gnaw-ed their tongues because of pain, 11 and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores; and they did not repent of their deeds. 12 And the sixth {angel} poured out his bowl upon the great river, the Euphrates; and its water was dried up, that the way might be prepared for the kings from the east. 13 And I saw {coming} out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three un-clean spirits like frogs; 14 for they are spirits of demons, per-forming signs, which go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty. 15 ("Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his garments, lest he walk about naked and men see his shame.")

16 And they gathered them together to the place which in Hebrew is called Har-Magedon. <>17 And the seventh {angel} poured out his bowl upon the air; and a loud voice came out of the temple from the throne, saying, "It is done."   18 And there were flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder; and there was a great earthquake, such as there had not been since man came to be upon the earth, so great an earthquake {was it, and} so mighty. 19 And the great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And Babylon the great was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of His fierce wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And huge hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, came down from heaven upon men; and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, because its plague was extremely severe. NAS

Introduction “The seven bowls have certain similarities to the seven trumpets. However, there are marked differences. The trumpets were calls to repentance. The bowls are the execution of total judgment when all hope of repentance is gone. In the case of the trumpets only one-third of living things were affected. With the bowls there is total destruction. In the trumpet judgments man was not affected until the fifth trumpet. In the bowl judgments man is afflicted from the beginning. (Quoted from Hobbs p 146)

Illustration

I talked with a troubled young man last week. He asked how can a loving God allow someone to stay in hell for an eternity. I related the thoughts of these verses and others like them. The people in Hell are probably not crying out for forgiveness or expressing repentance. They are cursing God.

Application

Sin begins in man’s unbelief that forsakes God. Sin ends in God forsaking man.

5        Angel Five Pours Out Judgment. v 10-11

10      And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, 11    And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

          deeds.

          1.       Darkness.

          2.       Pain.

          3.       Blasphemy. Not gods but God

6        Angel Six Pours Out Judgment. v 12-16

           A.      The Affect. v 12 a

12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river

                    1.       The . . Way of the Kings is prepared. v 12 b

“. . . that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

                    2.       The . . Warring of the Satanic Trinity. v 13

13      And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the

mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the

                    mouth of the false prophet.

                              a.       The Dragon = Satan.

                              b.       The Beast = Anti-Christ.

                              c.       The False Prophet = Head of Satan’s Church.

                    4.       The . . Welcome at Armageddon. v 16

                              b        Think of Saddam Hussein.

c        Two Hundred Million Soldiers. Rev 9:16

16 Now the number of the army of the horsemen was two

hundred million; I heard the number of them. NKJV

d        It should be noted, however, that in the larger context this

vision applies not only to the Roman Empire but also to the

final victory of Christ over his foes (cf. 19:11ff). So here is a

double prophecy. What is true within the context of history

will be fully so at the end of the age. Hobbs p 154

7.       Angel Seven Pours Out Judgment. v 17-21

          A.      The . . Affect.

17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came

a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

                    1.       All breathe the same air. (They sinned beyond grace.)

                    2.       It is done!

                              a.       Statement like Jesus’ “It Is Finished.”

                              b.       Different words, This is God saying what I began to do is now done. I have poured out my judgements.

          B.      The Effects

                    1.       Great . . Catastrophe. v 18-21

18      And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and

there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the

earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. 19 And the great city was

divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great

Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the

wine of the fierceness of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and

the mountains were not found. 21 And there fell upon men a great hail

out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent:

“No such physical judgment as John pictures falling upon the city of Rome is

recorded in history up to this time. Hobbs p 155

                    2.       Great . . Cursing. v 21 b

                              “. . . and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail;

for the plague thereof was exceeding great.” (KJV)

                              a.       Satan is Prince of the Power of the Air.

This is an attack on what the Lord allowed him to control.

                              b.       Stones the weight od a talent = 86-120 lbs.

Conclusion Recently I saw a biography on the so called god

Father of the Moffia. They taped his conversations in his day time office. On one occasion he lost $20,000.00 betting on baseball. Do you know how he greeted the news? He called God names and cursed Him. Armageddon. is coming because some men will not repent.

Some day God will say IT IS DONE!
