†Where Wickedness Rules†††† Gen. 18:20-25; 19:12-16 HCSB†††† Nov. 08, 2015
There have been times in our world when it seemed certain societies were in the place Where Wickedness Rules.† Some of those times were not as bad as we personally thought, but in this time of our text the outcry greatly reached Godís attention and He was going to act.† There are times today when we could say our world is really wicked and then there is a great period of revival.† Today we need to ask God for an earth-shaking revival.† I see many such calls for revival and hope they are followed by Christians everywhere.
1.†† Where Wickedness Rules . . Man Is Very Sinful.†† 18:20-21
A.†† Where Wickedness Rules . . Extremely Sinful Lifestyle Takes Place.† 18:20
20 Then the Lord †said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is immense, and their sin is extremely
B.††† Where Wickedness Rules . . Extra Action Comes from God.†† 18:21
21 I will go down to see if what they have done justifies the cry that has come up to Me. If not, I will find
Does God have to come down to find out how the world is doing?† I donít think so.† He may need to help the people understand His concern, but He knows even from Heaven.†† The people called this sin immense and extremely serious.† When we look around our world today we could say the same words about some particular places.† Immense sin calls for extra special attention from the Lord and the willingness of Christians to stand up.
The Lord knows how sin is affecting our nation and what can be done about it.† We need to seek His face.†† Have you ever been to Las Vegas it is certainly a town built with a sinful reputation.† Do Christians pray for that city?† Would you name some other city in America, The same question needs to be asked.
2.†† Where Wickedness Rules . . Abraham Intercedes.†† 18:22-25†††††††††††††††††††
A.†† Abrahamís Intercession . .† Boldly Before the Lord.† 18:22-23
22 The men turned from there and went toward Sodom while Abraham remained standing before the Lord .
23 Abraham stepped forward and said, "Will You really sweep away the righteous with the wicked?
B.††† Abrahamís Intercession . .† Briskly before the Lord.† 18:24-25
24 What if there are 50 righteous people in the city? Will You really sweep it away instead of sparing the
place for the sake of the 50 righteous people who are in it?
25 You could not possibly do such a thing: to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and
the wicked alike. You could not possibly do that! Won't the Judge of all the earth do what is just?"
Abraham expected the Lord to be just in His punishment and that did not include punishing the righteous with the unrighteous.† He interceded boldly to the Lord.† Do you intercede to the Lord for the sinfulness of your nation.† If you go to the downtown area of most larger cities you will see many sinful acts taking place.† Some sections of town have a variety of pronounced sinful acts.† Have you ever asked yourself, ďwho prays for those
sections of town?Ē† Then ask ourselves ďdo we pray for them?Ē† Abraham prayed boldly and briskly before the Lord as he stepped before the Lord and spoke.† He started by asking if there were only 50 righteous people in the land and then asked if God would be just.† That is bold.
3.†† Where Wickedness Rules . . Godís Grace Intercedes.†† 19:12-16
A.†† Godís Grace Intercedes As† Angels Interceded by . . Speaking to Lot.† 19:12-13
12 Then the angels said to Lot, "Do you have anyone else here: a son‑in‑law, your sons and daughters, or
anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of this place,
13 for we are about to destroy this place because the outcry against its people is great before the Lord, and
the Lord has sent us to destroy it."
B.††† Godís Grace Intercedes As Angels Interceded by . . Snatching His Family.†† 19:14-16
14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons‑in‑law, who were going to marry his daughters. "Get up," he said.
"Get out of this place, for the Lord is about to destroy the city!" But his sons‑in‑law thought he was joking.
15 At the crack of dawn the angels urged Lot on: "Get up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are
here, or you will be swept away in the punishment of the city."
16 But he hesitated, so because of the Lord's compassion for him, the men grabbed his hand, his wife's
hand, and the hands of his two daughters. And they brought him out and left him outside the city.
Several people believe angels have spoken to them.† Many of those have the Biblical facts of that event correct.† The angels spoke to Lot and he understood.† If an angel or angels spoke to you how soon would you respond?† I think I would respond quickly especially if I understood like Lot did.† He did not respond as quickly as he should have so the angles took charge and snatched Lot and his family away from the impending danger.† Does that help us understand how God takes care of His own Where Wickedness Rules?† Amen?† Amen!
