Waiting For The Promise†††† Gen. 15:1-7, 13-16†††† Oct. 25, 2015
Waiting for the revelation of Godís promises has had much significance in the life of Israel. Today Israel seems to have placed Godís Word on the back burner.† We in America have done a similar act as we pass over His word.† But when you think about the Lordís promise to return for His people many of us are waiting and looking forward to that promise.† Some of those believe and teach that the time is near and many predictions seem to be fulfilled with only a few left unfilled.† We know no one of us knows the time but God has the time in His hands.† So we are Waiting For The Promise!
1.†† Waiting for the Promise and Godís . . Provision of Abramís Offspring.† 15:1-4
A.† Godís Provision and Abrams . . Petition to God.†† 15:1-3
1 After these events, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your
shield; your reward will be very great.
2 But Abram said, "Lord God, what can You give me, since I am childless and the heir of my house is
Eliezer of Damascus?"
3 Abram continued, "Look, You have given me no offspring, so a slave born in my house will be my heir."
B.† Godís Provision and . . Promise to Abram.†† 15:4
4 Now the word of the Lord came to him: "This one will not be your heir; instead, one who comes from your own body will be your heir."
Have you and your wife ever been told by the doctor you may not be able to have a baby.† If you get pregnant it will be difficult.† The promise to Abram and Sarah was a help and encouragement to us.† We did not believe we had a promise from God but never-the-less, we ask the Lord for His intervention.† After only 21/2 years God blessed us with a baby girl.† Four and and a half years later we received another girl.† Those girls blessed us with 5 granddaughters and 3 grandsons.† My first daughter is married to a pastor and one of her sons is a pastor.†† Our second daughter has a husband who has been the Chairman of deacons in a large church and their son is thinking about the ministry and a daughter in college studying missions and may become a missionary. God blessed Abram and gave him a godly son.† Abram was 100 when he became a father.† God did much through Abrams linage; I believe He will do much through mine.† Abrams example can be an encouragement to all of us.††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††† †
2.†† Waiting for the Promise and Godís . . Plan.†† 15:5-7
A.† Godís Plan and A . . Promise to Abram.†† 15:5
5 He took him outside and said, "Look at the sky and count the stars, if you are able to count them." Then
He said to him, "Your offspring will be that numerous."
B.† Godís Plan and A . . Possession for Abram.†† 15:6-7
6 Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness.
7 He also said to him, "I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land
to possess." †††††††††††††††††††††††††††††
God gave Abram a unique promise; and his offspring will be numerous.† Last week I heard the Prime Minister of Israel diliveer a message to the United Nations gathering and spoke making reference to the large
number of offspring that made up all of Israelís offspring.† The text tells us of the belief Abram had and how God credited it as righteousness.
3.†† Waiting for the Promise and the Future . . Perception of God.†† 15:13-15
A.† Godís Perception and the . . Possessions of Abraham.†† 15:13-14
13 Then the Lord said to Abram, "Know this for certain: Your offspring will be strangers in a land that does not belong to them; they will be enslaved and oppressed 400 years.
14 However, I will judge the nation they serve, and afterwards they will go out with many possessions.
B.† Godís Perception and the . . Promise of Peace.†† 15:15-6
15 But you will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a ripe old age.
16 In the fourth generation they will return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites has not yet reached its full
God knew the offspring of Abram would serve as captives in a foreign land for 400 years. †As we look back over our lives we can appreciate how God led us and even in some strange circumstances knew how he was going to use us.† Israel went from captivity with many possession that helped them settle in the promise land.
Abram was promised he would rest with his fathers in peace and while Waiting For The Promise he certainly received blessings.† Amen?† Amen!
