Living in a New Household      1 Peter 2:1-10 (HCSB)      Sept. 16, 2012

Introduction

I like to see new Christians. These People Know the Lord and He has given them the privilege of Living in a New Household..

1.   Living in A New Household You Have A . . Hunger for New Food. 2:1-3 A.The Hunger for New Food . . Purging Of Old Habits. 2:1

1 So rid yourselves of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander.

       B.   Living in A New Household You Have A . . Pleasure In Spiritual Food. 2:2-3

2 Like newborn infants, desire the pure spiritual milk, so that you may grow by it for yoursalvation,
3 since you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Becoming a Christian enables you to get to throw away many old habits. We can be purged of language

and speech that we did not gain victory over on our own. The new Christian will want new food and drink.

They will be hungry for Bible study and time in prayer and maybe be part of a prayer group. Once we taste of something very delicious to us we want more of it and seek to find it. This desire for growth is natural as natural as a newborn baby seeking to nurse. In the physical realm this nourishment causes a newborn to grow. The spiritual basics of Bible study, church attendance prayer and witnessing certainly make a difference in the growth of a new Christian.

2.   Living in A New Household You Have A . . Home with Spiritual Dimensions. 2:4-8

       A.   The Home with Spiritual Dimensions to Offer . . Spiritual Food. 2:4-5

4 Coming to Him, a living stonerejected by men but chosen and valuable to God

5 you yourselves, as living stones, are being built into a spiritual house for a holy priesthood to offer

spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

       B.   The Home with Spiritual Dimensions to Offer A. . Stone for the Corner Stone. 2:6-8

6 For it is contained in Scripture: Look! I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and honored cornerstone, and the one who believes in Him will never be put to shame!
7 So honor will cometo you who believe, but for the unbelieving, The stone that the builders rejectedthis One has become the cornerstone,
8 and stone to stumble over, and a rock to trip over. They stumble because they disobey the message; they were destined for this.

We have build two homes that we have designed and decided the floor plan and all the details. None of us designed our physical bodies but God made the spiritual body to be designed with Jesus as the cornerstone providing the strength and frame work with capacities that will only be satisfied by spiritual food. Sadly some will stumble over this stone because they do not accept the basic message of, “Jesus Saves.” Many believe they

can provide all that is needed for their home and reject Jesus as the cornerstone. They may look nice from the outside but there really an empty and shallow feeling that only Jesus can fulfill. So If you want a spiritual home none will compare to the one built with Jesus as the cornerstone.

3.   Living in A New Household You Have A . . Holy Environment. 2:9-10

       A.   The Holy Environment Producing A . . People for His Possession.. 2:9

9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

       B.   The Holy Environment Producing A . . People for His Mercy. 2:10

10 Once you were not a people, but now you are Gods people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Can you walk into a home and sense a holy atmosphere? It is possible to gain a sense of the spiritual in a house because Christ has made the house a home. The Christians body is a spiritual place because God made it

that way by giving His Spirit dwell in us. We are a people for His own possession, we are a people to receive His mercy and share it wherever we go. Have you heard the story about the boy who had an apple stand on a busy street and some rough and tough boys came by and knocked both he and the cart for a loop.

A man near by saw this and responded by picking up the boy, his cart and apples. He then helped the boy to get going again but then walked on ahaed on the boy on his way. The boy Yelled at the man and said, “hey mister are you Jesus?” That boy he wondered if the man was Living in a New Household. Amen? Amen!
