Glimpse of the Throne†††† Rev. 4:1-11 HCSB†††† Aug. 02, 2015
The Book of Revelation certainly has many places for several different kinds of interpretation.† In spite of that it is a very interesting book for worship.† How can a Christian read this book and not be drawn to many times of praise and worship?† In my opinion we do not have enough praise or emphasis on the holiness of God or His people being holy.† In conversion He makes us holy and we need to practice holiness and praise to God.
In this chapter it tells us the four living creatures never stop saying Holy.†† This must be due to their getting a Glimpse of the Throne.
1.†† Glimpse of the Throne . . Godís Glory.† 4:1-6a
A.† Godís Glory . . Seen As God Is On His Throne.† 4:1-3
1 After this I looked, and there in heaven was an open door. The first voice that I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this."
2 Immediately I was in the Spirit, and there in heaven a throne was set. One was seated on the throne,
3 and the One seated looked like jasper and carnelian stone. A rainbow that looked like an emerald
surrounded the throne.
B.†† Godís Glory . . Symbolized In People, Crowns, and spirits Represent God.† 4:4-6a
4 Around that throne were 24 thrones, and on the thrones sat 24 elders dressed in white clothes, with gold crowns on their heads.
5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings, and thunder. Burning before the throne were seven fiery torches, which are the seven spirits of God.
6 Also before the throne was something like a sea of glass, similar to crystal.
Many Bible students support the idea that the trumpet voice and the call up to heaven represent the rapture of the church.† Supporting this belief is the absence of the church in this chapter and the ones following.† The church is not seen in her normal setting any more.† The phrase, ďAfter This,Ē has significance as it speaks of a time after the church.† The 24 Elders represent the 12 Tribes of Israel, and the 12 Apostles, (Rev. 21:12-13).†† The number seven appears 54 times in this book.† Seven spirits appear in four different verses and symbolize, perfection etc..
2.†† Glimpse of the Throne . . Godís Holiness.† 4:6b-8
A.† Godís Holiness . . Displayed by the living creatures.† 4:6b-7
6b In the middle and around the throne were four living creatures covered with eyes in front and in back.
7 The first living creature was like a lion; the second living creature was like a calf; the third living creature
had a face like a man; and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle.
B.†† Godís Holiness . . Described by the living creatures.† 4:8
8 Each of the four living creatures had six wings; they were covered with eyes around and inside. Day and night they never stop, saying: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God, the Almighty, who was, who is, and who is coming.
The four living creatures certainly display God and His holiness.† The creature covered with eyes display Godís ability to see everything all over the world.† The different forms of the creatures display Godís love and appreciation for all the forms of animal life, the life of all kinds of flying bird life and certainly mankind.† If these animals are in heaven when we get there they will beautifully display the holiness of God.†† The description of Godís holiness is obvious in the sound of their saying or singing about the holiness of God.† Today some of the new songs repeat some phrases over and over, do you think they get that from this verse of scripture?
3.†† Glimpse of the Throne . . Godís Sustaining Power.† 4:9-11
A.† Godís Sustaining Power and the† . . Worship of Him.† 4:9-10
9 Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to the One seated on the throne, the One who
lives forever and ever,
10 the 24 elders fall down before the One seated on the throne, worship the One who lives forever and ever,
cast their crowns before the throne, and say:
B.†† Godís Sustaining Power and His† . . Worthiness Declared.† 4:11
11 Our Lord and God, You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because You have created all
things, and because of Your will they exist and were created.††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††
When one knows the Lord it is an enjoyable blessing to worship Him.† Some songs cause me to want to
bow down and honor my Lord as I worship Him.† God is worthy of our worship and we should help others
understand the inherent desire we have to worship because of what He has done, what He is doing for us,
and the blessing of worship and fellowship in His name.† He is the Creator and He loves us, and when He allows us to be forgiven through Christ and allows His Spirit to live in us we love to worship Him.† We certainly need and enjoy His sustaining power and the Glimpse of the Throne.† Amen ?†† Amen!
