Jesus Alone     1 John 5:1-12 HCSB     July 12, 2015

Introduction

Satan desires to confuse people with thoughts that seem kind.  Statements such as, “all the religions in the world are all right, and they all will take you to heaven if you obey what they teach.”  Then a Christian tells a person that, Jesus is the only way and they get accused of being bigoted and narrow.  Surely God is not that exclusive.  But the truth is based in the Bible and it tells us Jesus Alone is the way to heaven.  He alone is God’s

plan for salvation.  He paid the price no one else could pay  and He gives us the testimony of peace in the salvation He gives to us.  He confirms this testimony for us through The Spirit of God so we can know we have eternal life.

1.   Jesus Alone . . Offers Victory.   5:1-5

A.   Jesus Alone Offers Victory To Those  . . Born Of God.   5:1-3

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah has been born of God, and everyone who loves the

parent also loves his child.

2 This is how we know that we love God's children when we love God and obey His commands.

3 For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. Now His commands are not a burden,

B.    Jesus Alone Offers Victory To Those  . . Believing Jesus is the Son of God.    5:4-5

4 because whatever has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith

5 And who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Many people discovered for themselves the victory people can have when Jesus becomes Lord of their life.

There are many others who just doubt the possibility of such an experience.  It seems many more people

are questioning the reality of the Bible.  They think the book is to old to be able to be helpful for the problems of our day so they don’t try it.  Sadly too few have seen a saved person actively sharing about their experience of enjoying the new birth.  The people recently born again know they received this grace by faith.  It seems very simple to them and hard to believe others will not believe just as they did.  It certainly is a victory made possible by the Lord.

2.   Jesus Alone . . Offers the Claim He Is The Son of God.   5:6-10

A.   Jesus Alone Claims the Triune Facts . . Testifying To His Messiahship.   5:6-8

6 Jesus Christ—He is the One who came by water and blood; not by water only, but by water and by blood.

And the Spirit is the One who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

7 For there are three that testify:

8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and these three are in agreement.

B.    Jesus Alone Claims the Triune Facts As A . . Testimony About Jesus.     5:9-10

9 If we accept the testimony of men, God's testimony is greater, because it is God's testimony that He has

given about His Son.

10 (The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. The one who does not believe

God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given about His Son.)

The triune facts are presented as further proof that Jesus is the Son of God and came to us through a miraculous birth.  The Holy Spirit gave testimony to Jesus being virgin born and as the witnesses confirmed

this miraculous birth of Jesus He helps all of us believe what God promised and we have received.  The

testimony God gives make every doubter a liar as long as they hold that position is held.  John tells us the

testimony of God is greater than the testimony of men.  All of us need to believe what God tells us about

Jesus and His salvation.

3.   Jesus Alone . . Offers Eternal Life.   5:11-12

A.   Jesus Alone Offers Eternal Life To Those Who Believe In . . His Son.   5:11

11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

B.    Jesus Alone Offers Eternal Life To Those Who Believe In and . . Have His Son.   5:12

12 The one who has the Son has life. The one who doesn't have the Son of God does not have life.  HCSB

If we believe what the Bible tells us about the Son we will receive the gift of the Son and know the truth of

the Bible and have the personal relationship with Jesus resulting in the knowledge that we have eternal life.

It is sad that some Christians do not accept the truth that God gives us.  That is we have eternal life in Christ.  I sometimes ask if these people would want their earthy father to make them doubt weither he securely loved them for ever or just want them to go around in wonderment.  Eternal life is the gift of Jesus Alone.  Amen?   Amen!
