He Lives Eternally: Carry On     Luke 24:1-8, 36-40, 44-46, 47-53     May 27, 2012

Introduction

This lesson presents the glorious fact of the resurrection. Yes! We serve a risen Savior and because He lives we must carry on in the work,

1.    Carry On:   Remember the Resurrection. Luke 24:1-8\

       A.   Remember the Empty Tomb . . Seen By the Ladies. Luke 24:1-5

1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they[a] came to the tomb, bringing the spices they

had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb. They went in but did not find the body of

the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men stood by them in

dazzling clothes. So the women were terrified and bowed down to the ground.[b] “Why are you looking for

the living among the dead?” asked the men.

       B.   Remember the Empty Tomb . . Spoken of by the Angels. Luke 24:6-8

“He is not here, but He has been resurrected! Remember how He spoke to you when

He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful

men, be crucified, and rise on the third day’?” And they remembered His words.

When the ladies came to the tomb where Jesus burial took place they were greatly surprised. The tomb was empty but then these men in white apparel appeared. From all the gospels we know these where angels and they proclaimed the truth about Jesus resurrection. I really like the words, ”why are you looking for the living among the dead?” It is also interesting to note the phrase about what Jesus had taught concerning His

resurrection. The ladies saw the empty tomb and the angels. They heard them speak and proclaimed later what they saw and how they responded.

2.    Carry On:   Rely On His Witness. Luke. 24:36-40

       A.   Rely on the . . Testimony they heard. 24:36-28

36 And as they were saying these things, He Himself stood among them. He said to them, “Peace to

you!” 37 But they were startled and terrified and thought they were seeing a ghost. 38 “Why are you

troubled?” He asked them. “And why do doubts arise in your hearts? 3

                            B.   Rely on the . . Touch of His Hands. Luke 24:39-40

39 Look at My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself! Touch Me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” 40 Having said this, He showed them His hands and feet.

I think there is a little humor here as the Lord decided to walk along with these ladies. The Lord gave them a personal testimony by asking the questions He asked and the answers they understood. Not only did they get to hear words from the resurrected Lord and then actually touched His hands and feet. What a witness to receive from the Lord. Do you know the more times we give a testimony about the Lord the easier it is to share? My wife has become a rather aggressive witness and she finds it easier all the time, It is interesting the number of times someone will say thank you for sharing or I appreciate your concern. I am sure these ladies enjoyed sharing what they saw heard and experienced.

3.    Carry On:   Recognize the Truth Christ Spoke. Luke. 24:44-46

44 Then He told them, “These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything

written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”45 Then He opened

their minds to understand the Scriptures.

46 He also said to them, “This is what is written:[j] The Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead the third

       day,

In the days before the Conservative resurgence in our convention I had a professor who said, the Old

Testament Prophets did not speak about Jesus, I spoke up and said, Jesus said they did; and he responded

wouldn’t it be nice to know exactly what prophecies. Well the Ladies knew and I am confident the Lord

made reference to several if not all of them. The prophecies told of the Messiah’s suffering and

resurrection, We need to recognize these prophecies and share the them as we can.

4. Carry On Teaching:    Repentance and Forgiveness. Luke 24:47-53

       A.Teaching the . . Reality of . . Forgiveness for all . . Nations. Luke 24:47-49

47 and repentance for[k]forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning at

Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And look, I am sending you[l] what My Father

promised. As for you, stay in the city[m] until you are empowered[n] from on high.”

B.   Teaching the . . Resurrection and Ascension of the Lord to all . . Nations. Luke 24:50-53

50 Then He led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up His hands He blessed them. 51 And while He was blessing them, He left them and was carried up into heaven. 52 After worshiping Him, they returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they were continually in the temple complex praising God.[o

Jesus encouraged His children to share the reality of His message of forgiveness and repentance in their

witness and preaching the truth about Jesus. He wants this message to be shared all over the world to every nation. Last night at the airport I shared with a Philopiano man who already was a Christian due to the witness of some other Christian at an earlier time. When in Israel I was always pleased to see brothers and sisters in Christ from other nations. Someone proclaimed the resurrection and the blessings of repentance and faith. So I certainly agree in the lissons title” He Lives Eternally: Carry On Amen? Amen! For addition help go to: http://www.preachhim.org/SundaySchoolIndex.html
