Stay Away From Perverted Practices       Lev 18:1-5, 20-26; 20:6-8      May 23:2010

Introduction       It seems every day there is some encroachment of the world on the church. The question must be asked what do we do in these situations? The answer needs to come forth, “we stand God’s ways and righteousness.” The practices of the world whether from an old society or a new one must not be followed. To help ease any temptation toward sinful practices we need to Stay Away From Perverted Practices.

1.    Stay Away From The Perversions Of . . Sinful Nations. Lev 18:1-5

       A.   The . . Negative Word About The Practices Of Israel. 18:1-2

1 The Lord spoke to Moses: 2 "Speak to the Israelites and tell them: I am the Lord your God.     3 Do not

follow the practices of the land of Egypt, where you used to live, or follow the practices of the land of

Canaan, where I am bringing you. You must not follow their customs.

       B.   The . .Positive Word About The Practices Of Israel. 18:3-5

4 You are to practice My ordinances and you are to keep My statutes by following them; I am the Lord

your God. 5 Keep My statutes and ordinances; a person will live if he does them. I am the Lord .

In a negative pronouncement the Lord told Israel not to practice the ways of Egypt where they used to live or the practices of the land of Canaan where they were going to live. These nations held to pagan gods and the ways of idolatry. All kinds of sinful practices abounded as a way of life in these nations because they did not follow the one true God. In a positive word since God led Moses and he related to the teaching to the people of Israel they needed to stand with Moses and demonstrate the practices God demanded. They needed to establish a difference related to their lifestyle and make an influence on these other nations.

2.   Stay Away From The Perversions Of . . Sexual Sins. Lev 18:20-26

       A.   The Perversion Of The Sexual Sin Of . . Adultery. 18:20

20 You are not to have sexual intercourse with your neighbor's wife, defiling yourself with her.

       B.   The Perversion Of The Sexual Sin Of . . Abusing Your Children. 18:21

21 "You are not to make any of your children pass through the fire to Molech. Do not profane the name of your God; I am the Lord .

       C.   The Perversion Of The Sexual Sin Of . . Abnormal Homosexual Relationships. 18:22

22 You are not to sleep with a man as with a woman; it is detestable.

       D.   The Perversion Of The Sexual Sin Of . . Animal Sex. 18:23

23 You are not to have sexual intercourse with any animal, defiling yourself with it; a woman is not to present herself to an animal to mate with it; it is a perversion.

       E.   The Perversion Of The Sexual Sin Of . . Amoral Nations. 18:24-26

24 "Do not defile yourselves by any of these practices, for the nations I am driving out before you have defiled themselves by all these things. 25 The land has become defiled, so I am punishing it for its sin, and the land will vomit out its inhabitants. 26 But you are to keep My statutes and ordinances. You must not commit any of these abominations—not the native or the foreigner who lives among you.

The Lord lists several sins and called them by these names: defilement, profane, detestable, perversion, and abominations. Today people want different names to be used, but the Lord never changed His definitions of these sinful practices. Israel is to stay away from the practice of Adultery. This sin although practiced by man is never-the-less noted by the world as a forbidden practice. Adultery damages families and hinders strong relationships. People abuse their children when they force them into religious practices that God forbids.

The world calls homosexual relationship, gay, but the facts show it is not really a good lifestyle. It is abnormal and perverted. Sex with animals is forbidden and is easily seen as grotesque. God planned to drive out the nations who practiced such abominations. God’s people certainly must not bring them back into the lifestyle.

Many times he world judges the lifestyle of Christians because they see an inconsistency. They know there is a difference from their way of and I believe it is good encouragement to live like God wants us to.

3.   Stay Away From The Perversions Of . . Sorcery.     Lev 20:6-8

       A.   The . . Prostituting Discouraged. 20:6

6 "Whoever turns to mediums or spiritist and prostitutes himself with them, I will turn against that person and cut him off from his people.

       B.   The . . Performance Encouraged. 20:7-8

7 Consecrate yourselves and be holy, for I am the Lord your God.

8 Keep My statutes and do them; I am the Lord who sets you apart.

God very clearly discouraged His people from prostituting themselves with spiritist or mediums. God promised to turn against any who would yield to that form of sin. God’s people are commanded not to turn to these abominable practices. The performance of God’s people that receives encouragement demonstrates a consecrated and holy lifestyle. More of God’s people need to convey a holy lifestyle, and teach their children to do the same. The lifestyle demanded by the Lord certainly will help God’s children to Stay Away From Perverted Practices. Amen? Amen!
