Bold†††† Acts 9:36-43 HCSB†††† May 15, 2016
Dorcas was one of the finest ladies in the early church.† Many if not all churches have a fine lady who stands out in the church for their Christian activities.† They are Bold but also humble.
1.††† Bold and Entering Her . . Resting Place.†† 9:36-37
A.†† Resting Place for Tabitha A . . Resourceful Lady.†† 9:36
36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas. She was always doing good
works and acts of charity.
B.††† Resting Place for Tabitha A . . Respected Lady.†† 9:37
37 In those days she became sick and died. After washing her, they placed her in a room upstairs.
Joppa was a large and prominent city.† Many towns like Lydda were near by and considered in one sense part of Joppa.††† Dorcas was a resourceful lady always doing good works as they were needed.† She did not have to be asked she just recognized the need and worked to accomplish the work.† The fact that she became sick and died was a great sadness to the church.†† Most of us have experienced a similar situation.† The Lord know who can take their place or how He can extend her live like he does in this situation.† The church is willing to try and seek the Lordís will in this matter.
2.††† Bold and A . . Request for Simon to Come to the Lady.†† 9:38-39
A.†† Request for the . . Respected Simon Peter.†† 9:38
38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples heard that Peter was there and sent two men to him who
begged him, "Don't delay in coming with us."
B.††† Request for . . Results from Heaven.†† 9:39
39 So Peter got up and went with them. When he arrived, they led him to the room upstairs. And all the widows approached him, weeping and showing him the robes and clothes that Dorcas had made while she was with them.
The church heard that Simon Peter was in the town of Joppa which was close by and they wanted to get him to come and pray over Dorcas.† The ladies showed Simon all the different kind of clothes Dorcas made.† The ladies were weeping and that illustrated how much they cared for Dorcas and wanted her back with them.† Simon Peter made haste in coming with the men to were this lady was laying.†
3.††† Bold and A . . Restoration Requested.†† 9:40-41†††
A.†† Restoration Requested As Simon . . Speaks to The Lord.†† 9:40
40 Then Peter sent them all out of the room. He knelt down, prayed, and turning toward the body said,
"Tabitha, get up!" She opened her eyes, saw Peter, and sat up.
B.††† Restoration Requested and Tabitha . . Stands Up.†† 9:41
41 He gave her his hand and helped her stand up. Then he called the saints and widows and presented her alive.
Simon Peter sent the women out of the room probably because of the noise the ladies were making as he wanted some quite to concentrate on his prayer to the Lord.† Peter knelt and prayed.† He then turned toward Tabitha and told her to get up, and she opened her eyes and sat up.† Then the other ladies were call in the room and they saw what God had done for Dorcas as she stood their alive.
4†††† Bold and Salvation . . Requested by Many.††† 9:42-43
A.†† Requested by Many and Information . . Shared throughout Joppa.†† 9:42
42 This became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.
B.††† Requested by Many and Simon . . Stayed Many Days in Joppa.†† 9:42
43 And Peter stayed on many days in Joppa with Simon, a leather tanner.††† HCSB
This miracle in raising Dorcas from the dead became known throughout Joppa and many believed in the Lord.† It is interesting how the miraculous causes many to listen and then believe.† Perhaps many knew about Dorcas and heard the word she had died and know was brought back to life.† Peter stayed on many days and probably helped the church assemble all the new believers.† Many could tell more about their miracle and do it in a Bold manner.† Amen?† Amen!
