Please God in Your Worship    1 Tim. 2:1-15 (HCSB)     March 10, 2013

Introduction

With such an emphasis today or the different varieties of worship the title of this lesson certainly is relevant. Some people say there is no way they can worship unless the music has a hand clapping beat to it and others desire a quite more serene type of music. The bottom line must be how does your worship affect your obedience to God and His word.

1.   Please God in Worship with an . . Emphasis on Prayer. 2:1-4

       A.   The Emphasis on . . Several Kinds of Prayer. 2:1-2

1 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone,

2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness

       and dignity.

       B.   The Emphasis on . . Salvation and Prayer. 2:3-4 & 8

3 This is good, and it pleases God our Savior,

4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8 Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument.

Not many if any can disagree that worship will affect our prayer life if we really worship.

We can have different kinds and manners of prayer but we should include all of the kinds of prayers mentioned in this scripture. Petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings ought to be included in our normal range of prayers. Do you personally have a prayer list, does it include people who are lost? Paul urged holy people to lift up their prayers for those who have not been saved. Yesterday a man I have prayed for as much as I ever prayed for any lost man died. It breaks my heart. But I know I shared the gospel with him.

2.   Please God in Worship with an . . Excitement about Truth. 2:5-7

       A.   The Excitement of the . . Testimony of Christ. 2:5-6

5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, Himself human,

6 who gave Himself—a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.

       B.   The Excitement of . . Teaching the Truth. 2:7

7 For this I was appointed a herald, an apostle (I am telling the truth; I am not lying), and a teacher of the

       Gentiles in faith and truth.

Our worship need to be centered in the truth and we need an excitement about it. Our worship must include a presentation of Jesus and truth about Him. Paul shares with us some unique truths about Jesus as the Mediator The word mediator appears 8 times in the Bible and Paul shares about Him 6 times. Why is there a mediator? Because God wants everyone to be saved. If I don’t hear about Jesus when I go to a worship service I feel like I wasted my time.

Where ever a preacher preaches from He can also bring in the gospel.

3.   Please God in Worship without An . . Elaborate attention to Dress.     2:9-15

       A.   The . . Dress Should be Modest. 2:9-10

9 Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing, with decency and good sense, not with

elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive apparel,

10 but with good works, as is proper for women who affirm that they worship God.

       B.   The . . Demeanor Should be Modest. 2:11-12

11 A woman should learn in silence with full submission.

12 I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; instead, she is to be silent.

       C.   The . . Discipline Should be Modeled from Eve. 2:13-15

13 For Adam was created first, then Eve.

14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed.

15 But she will be saved through childbearing, if she continues in faith, love, and holiness, with good

       judgment.

Some people have told me that they have been refused entrance into the church because of their poor style of clothing. I heard of a little girl the pastor found crying out side the church and he asked her what was wrong.

She said the usher told her to go back home and get a nice dress. She told the pastor this was the best she had.

He said come with me and he took her up on the platform with him and had her sit with him. Dress is not as important as the heart. We do not have woman pastors because ot the teaching of the scripture here and elsewhere. We do have many ladies making a major difference in our churches and this help us Please God In Your Worship. Amen? Amen!
