HCSB      March 09, 2014

Introduction

      Have you ever been around people you thought were very wise? Didn’t you love to talk with them and listen as they shared? You know several people gathered around Jesus just to listen to Him. If we could have done that I think our response would have been like the disciples on the way to Emmaus, and say with them, “Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?” (Luke 24:32 KJV).

I certainly believe my attitude would be like that. Of course that would be a rare and special occasion to tell others about and for you to Learn Wisdom’s Benefits .

1.   Learn Wisdom’s Benefits Of . . Security and Protection . Prov. 1:33; 2:7-8,20-22

       A.   Security and Protection . . Free From Fear of Danger. 1:33

       33 But whoever listens to me will live securely and be free from the fear of danger."

       B.   Security and Protection In The Way Of Loyal . . Followers. 2:7-8, 20-22

       2:7 He stores up success for the upright; He is a shield for those who live with integrity

       8 So that He may guard the paths of justice and protect the way of His loyal followers.

2:20 So follow the way of good people, and keep to the paths of the righteous.

       21 For the upright will inhabit the land, and those of integrity will remain in it;

       22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the treacherous uprooted from it.

      Do you remember as a child having a fear about going into a dark room alone? You overcame that through wisdom. In a much more important respect the Lord’s wisdom

will help us overcome fear. As we do we will also be more mature Christians and our loyalty

will demonstrate His righteousness.

2.   Learn Wisdom’s Benefits Of . . Shrewd Discernment. Prov. 2:5-6,9-12,16; 3:5-6

       A.   Shrewd Discernment And . . Discoveries From God.. 2:5-6

       5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God.

       6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

       B.   Shrewd Discernment And . . Delightful Understanding From God.. 2:9-12

       9 Then you will understand righteousness, justice, and integrity—every good path.

       10 For wisdom will enter your mind, and knowledge will delight your heart.

       11 Discretion will watch over you, and understanding will guard you,

       12 rescuing you from the way of evil—from the one who says perverse things,

       C.   Shrewd Discernment And . . Direction Guided by the Lord. 2:16; 3:5-6

       2:16 It will rescue you from a forbidden woman, from a stranger with her flattering talk,

       3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding;

       6 think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.

Sometimes all of us are not very shrewd in our dealings with God or mankind. An increasing knowledge

and reverence of God will certainly help in our discoveries. When this happens we also gain in our understanding about spiritual matters and that is a delightful experience. Do we all need spiritual direction? Of course we do! It will come more freely as we live a righteous life and trust in the Lord. As we determine to think about God and meditate on His word He will guide us even more.

3.   Learn Wisdom’s Benefits Of . . Strengthening Humility. Prov. 3:1-2,7-8

       A.   Strengthening Humility From The . . Commandments Of God. 3:1-2

       1 My son, don't forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commands;

       2 for they will bring you many days, a full life, and well-being.

       B.   Strengthening Humility And Don’t . . Consider Yourself Wise. 3:7-8

       7 Don't consider yourself to be wise; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

       8 This will be healing for your body and strengthening for your bones.

       How do you gain in genuine humility? Concentrating on the teachings of the Lord and His commands will

help. Another thing the scriptures teach us; is to not consider ourselves as wise. We are told to fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Many people do not have any respect or fear and they go through life thinking the Lord loves them and they can do as they please. Then they wake up in a crisis and can’t imagine how that happened to them. Part of their problem is they think they know too much and do not respect God.

4.   Learn Wisdom’s Benefits . . Successful Relationships. Prov. 3:3-4

       A.   Successful Relationships From . . Faithfulness To God. 3:3

       3 Never let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Tie them around your neck; write them on the tablet

       of your heart.

       B.   Successful Relationships In . . Favor From God And Man. 3:4

       4 Then you will find favor and high regard in the sight of God and man.

       Many benefits come through faithfulness to God. It should be a strong desire for us to want to be faithful to our Lord. Anyway we can be reminded of this need should be welcomed and appreciated. It is sad to have to admit but all of us weaken at times and do not obey as quickly or faithfully as we should. But as we become more obedient it is a time of joy as we know we can Learn Wisdom’s Benefits. Amen? Amen!
