Introduction

In the Great Commission we are told by the Lord to go into all the world and make disciples. We are to preach the gospel everywhere and baptize our converts.†† We are to teach them to observe all the truth we have been taught, Our text tells us the people gathered in large crowds to hear Jesus and some just came into the crowds because of the curiosity of the event.Jesus allowed them to come and hear his message if they really wanted to hear.†† He made sure they knew they could come to Him.

1.††† Access Granted To A Crowd . . Standing on the Shore.†† 13:1-3a

A.†† Standing on the Shore Listening . . Intently.†† 13:1-2

1 On that day Jesus went out of the house and was sitting by the sea.

2 Such large crowds gathered around Him that He got into a boat and sat down, while the whole crowd

stood on the shore. ††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††

B.††† Standing on the Shore Listening . . Interestingly.†† 13:3a

3aThen He told them many things in parables, saying:. . .Ē

This lesson has a lot for discussion.†† .The people really gathered to hear Jesus. He gets intoa boat and uses it as His place to speak to all the people who gathered to hear Him.Jesus also uses a parable style for His message.Later He will say this method of speech helps Him to conceal His message so primarily His people hear and understand Him.They listened intently and seemed to be very interested.

2.††† Access Granted To Consider The . . Sowing of Seed. 13:3b-9

A.†† Sowing of Seed and the . . Different Soils.†† 13:3b-5

3b"Consider the sower who went out to sow.

4 As he was sowing, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and ate them up.

5 Others fell on rocky ground, where there wasn't much soil, and they sprang up quickly since the soil

wasn't deep.

B.††† Sowing of Seed and the . . Distinctive Effects of the Sun.†† 13:6-9

6 But when the sun came up they were scorched, and since they had no root, they withered.

7 Others fell among thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them.

8 Still others fell on good ground, and produced a crop: some 100, some 60, and some 30 times what was

sown.

9 Anyone who has ears should listen!"

As Jesus shared about the sowing of seed He likened it to the sharing of His message.†† We know seed is

likened to the word of His message. The kinds of soil represents the different kinds of hearers who hear the word.†† There are different kind of soils and that represents the different kinds of hearers. Some seed falls on good soil and produces a crop some 100 percent profitable but some only likened to that which is 30% profitable. The rocky soil speaks about those who hear the message but donít give it the intention it deserves or that can be productive in their life.†† But this is Jesus speaking and anyone who hears him should listen.I made sure a man understood my invite for him to come to church and he basically said I have no interest.I think he represents rocky soil. But the Lord can fertilize and improve this manís response.

3.††† Access Granted For Clarification and . . Discussion of Parables.†† 13:10-13

A.†† Discussion of Parables and A . . Decision of Revelation.†† 13:10-11

10 Then the disciples came up and asked Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"

11 He answered them, "Because the secrets of the kingdom of heaven have been given for you to know, but

it has not been given to them.

B.††† Discussion of Parables and A . . Decision of Rejection.†† 13:12-13

12 For whoever has, more will be given to him, and he will have more than enough. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

13 For this reason I speak to them in parables, because looking they do not see, and hearing they do not

listen or understand.††† HCSB

Are there some people too whom the Lord chooses not to reveal His word?In our text Jesus said the secrets of the kingdom have not been given to some people.Jesus knows who will receive His message and appreciate it and who will not receive it.I think He in His wisdom does not waste His revelation to those who will just throw it away or disregard it.He also knows when people change in their thinking and is ready to respond with His message.I, as you, hate to see Godís name or word used in a flippant way, His name and word are precious and should be treated that way by everyone. He will respond when someone desire to hear His word and say Access Granted Amen?Amen!
