You Can Feel Safe 2:Thess. 1:1-12 Feb. 08-09
If a people seek safety through men, money, or magistrates they will not have lasting peace. Amid the
financial and political turmoil of this world; most people vainly seek safety. However only in Christ can we enjoy an eternal peace that also expresses itself right now and we may proclaim, You Can Feel Safe.
1. You Can Feel Safe Because of Your . . Position. 1:1-2
A. Safe Through Your Positioning In . . God. 1:1
1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy: To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord
B. Safe Through Your Positioning In . . Grace. 1:2
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
The text assures us by grace we can have a position in Christ. The eternal peace He gives guarantees the basis for peace in the midst of earthly storms. Of course this kind of peace comes from the grace of God. Mankind does not earn it or deserve it. Many never receive it, simply because they do not believe the plan God initiated.
2. You Can Feel Safe Because of . . Persecutions. 1:3-5
A. Safe Through The . . Endurance of Persecutions. 1:3-4
3 We must always thank God for you, brothers, which is fitting, since your faith is flourishing, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. 4 Therefore we ourselves boast about you among God’s churches—about your endurance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions you endure.
B. Safe Through The . . Evidence of Persecutions. 1:5
5 It is a clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment that you will be counted worthy of God’s kingdom, for which you also are suffering,
The person who receives the grace of God and knows he or she possess it endures persecutions of all kinds. Paul thanked the Lord for these believers because they were flourishing in faith, and their love for one another increased; they endured with Godly patience, and they practiced steadfast faith in the midst of trouble. Like these believers the annals of history provide multiple examples of Christians enduring in the face of terrible persecutions. Satan does not persecute his own; so persecution produces evidence that we are believers and we will be rewarded by the Lord counting us worthy of His kingdom.
3. You Can Feel Safe Because of . . Powerful Angels. 1:6-9
A. Safe Through The . . Affliction of The Powerful Angels. 1:6-7
6 since it is righteous for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7 and [to reward] with rest you who are afflicted, along with us. [This will take place] at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with His powerful angels,
B. Safe Through The . . Avenging of The Powerful Angels. 1:8-9
8 taking vengeance with flaming fire on those who don’t know God and on those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 These will pay the penalty of everlasting destruction, away from the Lord’s presence and from His glorious strength,
Angels are given an end time responsibility to carry out the affliction demanded by the Lord. He will not let the guilty go unpunished. Paul tells us it is righteous for God to repay with affliction those who afflicted His children. The avenging action by God further gives to the believer a feeling of safety knowing we can enjoy peace now and God plans to ultimately carry out His vengeance as He avenges His children. If we focus on the truth that God is fair and just it will encourage us for we will know that He has not forgotten us. Does it help you to understand God will use affiliation in our lives? Can you believe they may be a part of God's plan for believers and that we grow in Christ because of them?
4. You Can Feel Safe Because of . . Powerful Testimonies. 1:10-12
A. Safe Through A . . Believers Testimony. 1:10-11a
10 in that day when He comes to be glorified by His saints and to be admired by all those who have believed, because our testimony among you was believed. 11 And in view of this, we always pray for you that our God will consider you worthy of His calling,
B. Safe Through A . . Blessed Testimony. 1:11b-12
“. . . and will, by His power, fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified by you, and you by Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul testified about his faith and how he had been persecuted. Some of the Thessalonica believers came to Christ because of Paul’s salvation testimony. His testimony about a believer receiving persecution helped them understand it better when it came to them. I personally have benefitted from other Christians testimonies.
My mother gave testimony of her walk with the Lord and it certainly helped me. Do you share testimonies of how God walked with you during troublesome times? I encourage you to do so because you may encourage others to know in Christ, You Can Feel Safe. Amen? Amen!
