How To Get Along With Others.     1 Thess. 5:12-28     Feb. 01, 2009

Introduction

A study of organizations reveal nothing rises above the quality of leadership. A good leader knows how to get along with people and to demonstrate How To Get Along With Others.

1.   Get Along By . . Respecting Leaders. 5:12-13

12 Now we ask you, brothers, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among

       yourselves.

       A.   Respect Leaders For Their . . Labor. 5:12

12 Now we ask you, brothers, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the

              Lord and admonish you,

       B.   Respect Leaders For Their . . Love. 5:13

13 and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among

              yourselves.

When church members are getting along with others there is a sweet fellowship. The respect for the leaders and the respect by the leaders sets the standard. A prominent pastor of a few years ago said, in essences, a pastor must earn the right to be the boss of the church. Personally it is not my desire to be the boss, but I do want to be the leader. When admonishment is needed it should be based in the Word of God. In my opinion a pastor will be loved in proportion to how he loves. The phrase, “esteem them very highly,”is translated, beyond measure in (Mk 6:51 KJV); and exceedingly abundantly, in (Eph 3:20 KJV).

2.   Get Along By . . Reaching Out To Others. 5:14-15

       A.   Reach Out To Others With . . Warnings. 5:14

14 And we exhort you, brothers: warn those who are lazy, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

       B.   Reach Out To Others With . . Winsomeness. 5:15

15 See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.

A winsome attitude respects others even if warnings must be given to some about their work habits. We should reach out to others as we comfort those who may be discouraged. We can do this without using hurtful words and actions just because someone gave them to us. If you are more mature in the Christian faith; help weaker Christians, be patient and try to encourage what is good for all.

3.   Get Along By . . Responding To Spiritual Prompting. 5:16-18

       A.   The . . Perspective for Responding to Spiritual Prompting. 5:16-18a

16 Rejoice always! 17 Pray constantly. 18 Give thanks in everything,. . .”

       B.   The . . Pleasure of Responding to Spiritual Prompting. 5:18b

18b “. . . for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

The text give us the perspective for one desiring to respond to spiritual prompting. If one rejoices always, prays constantly, and gives thanks in everything, his or /her mind-set will certainly be ready to respond to any spiritual prompting. This attitude will cause a Christian great pleasure because it is the will of God.

4.   Get Along By . . Rejecting Satanic Prompting. 5:19-22

       A.   The Proper . . Position for Rejecting Satanic Prompting. 5:19-21

19 Don't stifle the Spirit. 20 Don't despise prophecies, 21 but test all things. Hold on to what is good.

       B.   The Proper . . Practice for Rejecting Satanic Prompting. 5:22

22 Stay away from every form of evil.

Did you ever notice how positive the negative might be? The text says, “Don't stifle the Spirit, and Don't despise prophecies.” Those are negatives giving positive results. Anytime Christians downplay the scripture they become wide open to Satanic promptings. The opposite is also true. The positive expression for rejecting Satanic promptings is to, “Stay away from every form of evil.”

5.   Get Along By . . Reinforcement Through The Grace Of God. 5:23-28

       A.   The Reinforcement of Grace for The . . Return of The Lord. 5:23-24

23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely. And may your spirit, soul, and body

be kept sound and blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful,

              who also will do it.

       B.   The Reinforcement of Grace for The . . Refinement Of The Christian. 5:25-28

25 Brothers, pray for us also. 26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. 27 I charge you by the Lord

that this letter be read to all the brothers. 28 May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!

If we get along with others the peace and sanctifying of the Lord will not only provide the position for us at the return of Christ but for our daily living as a Christian. Without the grace of God we will not live as He wants us to live. Paul asked the believers to pray for him, and greet the brothers with a holy kiss. He encouraged his letter to be read to all the brothers. All of these activities will affect how you treat someone. Paul concludes this letter with a blessing related to the grace of God being with them. Through the grace of God we can learn How To Get Along With Others. Amen? Amen!
