Be Exclusive Deut. 4:5-10, 15-19, 39-40 (HCSB) Jan. 22, 2012
What are we exclusive about? Most of us will have to think about that and examine our life and lifestyle.
After some thought, many can say I am exclusive about my worship and praise of the Lord. But then we might need to ask, Is that demonstrated in all areas of our life.@
1. Be Exclusive . . Show Godly Wisdom. Deut 4:5-8
A. Be Exclusive Show Godly Wisdom . . Carefully Follow His Commands. 4:5-6
5 Look, I’ve taught you statutes and ordinances as the Lord my God has commanded me, so that you
may follow them in the land you are entering to possess. 6 Carefully follow them, for this will show your
wisdom and understanding in the eyes of the peoples. When they hear about all these statutes, they will
say, 'This great nation is indeed a wise and understanding people.'
B. Be Exclusive Show Godly Wisdom . . Clarify God=s Righteous Statutes. 4:7-8
7 For what great nation is there that has a god near to it as the Lord our God is to us whenever we call to Him? 8 And what great nation has righteous statutes and ordinances like this entire law I set before you today?
If parents obviously possesses godly wisdom and we see their child following their advise that is very pleasing. Our God obviously creates wisdom in all areas of life, so to follow Him makes great sense. How do we do that? Carefully following His commands and doing our best to clarify them in all situations of life shows the intelligence we individually possess as gifts from Him. In my opinion we need to ask God for wisdom because He tells us to do that and promises to give it to us. His commands are not burdensome and we should demonstrate how righteous they are.
2. Be Exclusive . . Steadfastly Teaching God=s Word to your Children. Deut. 4:9-10
A. Be Exclusive Steadfastly Teach God=s Word and . . Deliberately Obey. 4:9
9 "Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves, so that you don't forget the things your eyes have seen and so that they don't slip from your mind as long as you live. Teach them to your children and your grandchildren.
B. Be Exclusive Steadfastly Teach God=s Word and . . Diligently Follow the Instructions. 4:10
10 The day you stood before the Lord your God at Me, and I will let them hear My words, so that they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth and may instruct their children.'
If we desire to teach God=s ways to our children, and we should, we must incorporate them in our own lifestyle by deliberately obeying them. When children are raised to see their parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents living by the principals God has commanded it will definitely influence them. We must not be like so many knowledgeable people on the computer. Many times I have asked a knowledgeable computer person how to do something and they showed me so quickly I could not follow. I needed a slower demonstration. Christians must give a consistent, deliberate and diligent example of one following Christ.
3. Be Exclusive . . Stay Away from All Kinds of Idolatry. Deut. 4:15-19
A. Be Exclusive Stay Away from Idols Made Like any Earthly . . Form. 4:15-18
15 "Be extremely careful for your own goodCbecause you did not see any form on the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the fireC 16 not to act corruptly and make an idol for yourselves in the shape of any figure: a male or female form, 17 or the form of any beast on the earth, any winged creature that flies in the sky, 18 any creature that crawls on the ground, or any fish in the waters under the earth.
19 When you look to the heavens and see the sun, moon, and starsCall the array of heavenCdo not be led astray to bow down and worship them. The Lord your God has provided them for all people everywhere under heaven.
4. Be Exclusive by Faithfully Keeping the . . Statutes of The Lord. Deut. 4:39-40
A. Be Exclusive by Keeping the Statutes of the Lord . . Remembering He Is God. 4:39
39 Today, recognize and keep in mind that the Lord is God in heaven above and on earth below; there is no other.
B. Be Exclusive by Keeping the Statutes of the Lord . . Respecting His Promises. 4:40
40 Keep His statutes and commands, which I am giving you today, so that you and your children after you may prosper and so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you for all time." (HCSB)
God desires all of us to be exclusive with His commands and teachings because He alone is God on earth and in the heavens. We are to be exclusive because God is God exclusively. We must remember God is God and there is no other. Then because that is true we must respect the truth of His statutes and commands, We should enjoy being people known for respecting the promises of God and to Be Exclusive about it. Amen? Amen!
