Whose Life Is Important

Ex.20:13; 21:22-25; 22:21-24; Deut. 24:19; Mt. 5:21-22; Lk. 20:47 Jan. 18, 2008

Introduction

Why is a lesson like this necessary? Selfishness and sin! When the question is asked Whose Life Is Important? We can respond, All life!

1.   All Life Is Important Therefore . . Honor The Sanctity Of Human Life.

      Ex. 20:13; Mt. 5:21-26

13 Do not murder. Ex 20:13 (HCSB)

21 “You have heard that it was said to our ancestors, Do not murder, and whoever murders will be subject to judgment. 22 But I tell you, everyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Fool!’ will be subject to the Sanhedrin. But whoever says, ‘You moron!’ will be subject to hellfire. 23 So if you are offering your gift on the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Reach a settlement quickly with your adversary while you’re on the way with him, or your adversary will hand you over to the judge, the judge to the officer, and you will be thrown into prison. 26 I assure you: You will never get out of there until you have paid the last penny! Matt 5:21-26

When most people quote the ten commandments they say command six says,“thou shalt not kill.” The newer translations say, You shall not murder.” When Jesus spoke of command six He said, “Do not murder.” What is the difference. Some killing as in self defense or war may be justifiable. I do not believe out and out murder can be justified. The vast number of Abortions would classify as murder. A human life is destroyed. To call the unborn child a fetus does not change the fact it is a human life.

2.   All Life Is Important Therefore . . Respect Women and Their Unborn Children.

      Ex. 21:22-25

22 “When men get in a fight, and hit a pregnant woman so that her children are born

[prematurely] , but there is no injury, the one who hit her must be fined as the woman’s husband demands from him, and he must pay according to judicial assessment. 23 If there is an injury, then you must give life for life, 24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 burn for burn, bruise for bruise, wound for wound. Ex 21:22-25 (HCSB)

It does not take the mind of a rocket scientist to make the parallel from this passage of scripture and any unborn child. The text clearly says a judgement will be made on the person who injures and unborn child.

To invade the womb for the purpose of eliminating a pregnancy causes death. I have heard several testimonies from mothers whose doctors told them their unborn baby would be deformed or have a major handicap, and they should abort. These mothers refused and a normal child was delivered, The statement, God is pro-life is a very positive and truthful statement.

3.   All Life Is Important Therefore . . Provide for Aliens, Widows, and Orphans.

      Ex. 22:21-24; Deut 24:19; Luke 20:47.

21 “You must not exploit a foreign resident or oppress him, since you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

22 “You must not mistreat any widow or fatherless child. 23 If you do mistreat them, they will no doubt cry to Me, and I will certainly hear their cry. 24 My anger will burn, and I will kill you with the sword; then your wives will be widows and your children fatherless.

19 “When you reap the harvest in your field, and you forget a sheaf in the field, do not go back to get it. It is to be left for the foreign resident, the fatherless, and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. Deut 24:19 (HCSB)

47 They devour widows’ houses and say long prayers just for show. These will receive greater punishment.” Luke 20:47

We need to follow the principles of scripture spoken here or we will be in danger of receiving the judgement spoken of in these verses. The idea of concern for the foreigner, widows etc. is further mentioned as the farmer must leave the gleanings of the field to to the less fortunate. I think it is noteworthy these people were given dignity as they worked in the fields to get the left overs. The instructions were not to just give them the gleanings but allow them to harvest them. Churches get calls all the time from people who want a handout without doing any thing but asking. In my opinion we receive a privilege to help if the needy person wants to get off the list and work somewhere to improve themself. If Christians follow the instruction of the Bible we will be judged as people who are fair in our dealings with all people. When asked Whose Life Is Important; we want to respond all life is important. Amen? Amen!
