A Unique Person: Praise God     Luke 2:3- 20
,     March 11, 2012

Introduction

The person of Christ, His life and influence, can only be explained by beginning with A unique birth. He is the uniquely divine Son of God and any so-called scholar who tries to degrade Jesus makes a big fool out of himself!

1.   Praise God for His . . Arranging His Birth. 2:3-6

       A.   Arranged through A . . Taxation. 2:3-4

3 So everyone went to be registered, each to his own town.

4 And Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of

David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David,

      B.   Arranged through the . . Timing of His Birth. 2:5-6

5 to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant.

6 While they were there, the time came for her to give birth.

The Birth of the Christ Child, Jesus, took place in a unique manner, Praise God. When you put all of the details surrounding the birth of Christ they fit together with all the miracles all the way through His resurrection after His atoning death. Christ is not a quick fix thought on the spur of the minute by God the Father but a plan that makes Jesus the Lamb of God slain before the foundations of the world. The birth of Christ was arranged by God with the perfect timimg including the time of taxation for Joseph and Mary causing them to be in Bethlehem.

2.   Praise God for His Angels . . Announcing His Birth. 2:7-14

       A.   Announcing to the . . Shepherds. 2:7-11

7 Then she gave birth to her firstborn Son, and she wrapped Him snugly in cloth and laid

Him in a feeding trough—because there was no room for them at the lodging place.

8 In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night

      over their flock.

9 Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around

      them, and they were terrified.

10 But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of

great joy that will be for all the people:

       B.   Announcing about the . . Savior. 2:11-14

11 Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you in the city of David.

12 This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in cloth and lying in

      a feeding trough.”

13 Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and

saying: 14 Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people He favors!

The announcing of the birth of Christ to the shepherds happened when they were watching their sheep while on a hillside. Were these sheep being made ready for a sacrifice? If God basically was telling these men you will be out of work because I am giving you my lamb who takes away the sin of the world. The shepherds were told about the Savior. What a time for exclaiming, “Glory to God in the highest heaven and peace on earth.” Would you have enjoyed being there? We can praise God all over our world because of what we know. Amen?

3.   Praise God for the . . Accelerated Movement of the Shepherds. 2:15-17

       A.   Accelerated Movement by the Shepherds to . . See the babe Mary and Joseph. 2:15-16

15 When the angels had left them and returned to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go straight to Bethlehem and see what has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”

16 They hurried off and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the

      feeding trough.

       B.   Accelerated Movement by the Shepherds to . . Share and Tell What They had Seen. 2:17

17 After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child,

If some angels told you about the birth of the Savior how long would it take you to go look for

yourself? I think like them I would go in an accelerated manner. I am from Missouri and I want to see for

myself. This is not just any baby. This child is unique. Then after seeing I would want to share what I heard

and saw. Do you realize no one had ever seen or heard this message of the Christ in a statement like these

shepherds heard it? Then add to it that they saw the Christ Child, what a thrill!

4.   Praise God for the . . Advertisement of the Saviors Birth. 2:18-20

       A.   Advertisement of the . . Shepherds. 2:18

18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

       B.   Advertisement Treasured and . . Shared Just as they were Told. 2:19-20

19 But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them.

20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had seen and heard, just

      as they had been told.

The shepherds were amazed at what they heard and I think rejoiced when those they told gave a similar reaction. This was a type of advertisement and the shepherds shared to the people just like they heard and

saw. I find it very interesting to read the last words of verse 20. It says “just as they were told.” That

statement could be placed over all scripture. They experienced this happening just like they were told. So we can say, A Unique Person: Praise God for the way this truth was shared. Amen? Amen!
