John 14:1-3 NAS

1 "Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Introduction
Today I intend to preach a simple sermon about the second coming of Christ. I am not going to give many details about His actual return just emphasize the fact that He is coming and some general aspects to His return.

2.    Preparation . . and the Second Coming of Christ. v 2

3.    Prophecy . . and the Second Coming of Christ. v 3

1.    Peace . . and the Second Coming of Christ. v 1

"Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.

Introduction
Jesus said ". . . let not your heart be troubled . . . " . The words following explain why and they relate to heaven and the second coming of Christ. Jesus tells us to be at peace about these matters.

A.    The Peace of . . Complete Redemption.
Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. NAS

1 Corinthians 2:9 but just as it is written, "Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him."

1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I shall know fully just as I also have been fully known. NAS

B.    The Peace of . . Christ Rewards.

1 Cor 3:12-15 12 Now if any man builds upon the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it, because it is to be revealed with fire; and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. 14 If any man's work which he has built upon it remains, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as through fire. NAS

Illustration OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECIES FULFILLED IN Christ

Richard Wimer, in his WITandWISDOM newsletter, shared this item recently:

Peter Stoner in "Science Speaks" (Moody Press, 1963) takes just eight of the Old Testament prophecies concerning Christ - not all of them, just eight - and shows that coincidence is ruled out by the science of probability. He says, "We find that the chance that any man might have lived down to the present time and fulfilled all eight prophecies is 1 in 10(17th)." That would be one in 100,000,000,000,000,000.

And then to help us understand this staggering figure, he illustrates it by supposing that "we take 10(17th) silver dollars and lay them on the face of Texas (approximate area: 263,000 square miles). They will cover all of the state two feet deep. Now mark one of these silver dollars and stir the whole mass thoroughly, all over the state. Blindfold a man and tell him that he can travel as far as he wishes," anywhere in the state. But he must pick up the silver dollar that was marked. What chance would he have of getting the right one? "Just the same chance that the prophets would have had of writing these eight prophecies and having them all come true in any one man, from their day to the present time, providing they wrote them in their own wisdom."

Evidently this business of fulfilling prophecy isn't so easy. No wonder the psychics miss so much of the time! --Marjorie Lewis Lloyd, Signs of the Times, August 1976.
